Hip and knee disorders are not age specific. They can occur at any age and be caused by multiple reasons like poor exercise, overuse, or degeneration.  

An injury can affect any of the ligaments, tendons, or fluid-filled sacs (bursae) that surround the hip and knee joint and the bones, cartilage, and ligaments that form the joint.

Common causes of
knee pain:

  • Osteoarthritis is the most common cause of chronic disability among the aging population.
  • The medial collateral ligament and medial meniscal injuries.
  • Patello-femoral pain, instability, dislocation - This refers to pain and instability problems with the kneecap. They account for 11% of musculoskeletal pain symptoms and have a higher incidence in females
  • The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) – is usually a sports injury, that occurs due to a sudden change of direction in running or an automobile accident
